Groups

    Therapy groups

Alongside individual and couples therapy, the clinic runs small facilitated groups. Groups are time-limited, run on a fixed schedule, and involve the same people each week.

Some people join a group while also in individual therapy. Others join on its own. You do not need to be a current client of the clinic to take part.

Why some people choose a group

    • Practising something with other people rather than only talking about it
    • Hearing from others in a similar situation
    • A structured, predictable commitment over a set number of weeks
    • A lower per-session cost than individual therapy

    How joining a group works

    1. Step 1

      Get in touch

Tell us which group you are interested in and ask any questions you have.

    2. Step 2

      Have a short screening conversation

A brief call with the facilitator to talk about what you are looking for and whether the group is a good fit.

    3. Step 3

      Confirm your spot

If it is a fit, we confirm your place and send the schedule and joining details.

    DBT skills group

Dialectical behaviour therapy skills are a set of practical tools for managing intense emotions, getting through difficult moments without making them worse, and communicating in relationships more clearly. This group is a place to learn those skills and practise them week by week. It runs online, so you can attend from anywhere in Ontario.

    What may bring you here

    • Emotions that feel fast, large, or hard to come down from
    • Reacting in ways you later regret
    • Difficulty tolerating distress without doing something that costs you
    • Conflict, distance, or difficulty asserting yourself in relationships
    • Wanting structure and practice alongside individual therapy
    • Having heard DBT recommended and wanting a place to start

    What the group covers

The group works through the four standard DBT skills modules.

    • Mindfulness — noticing what is happening, in your body and around you, without immediately acting on it
    • Emotion regulation — understanding what emotions are doing and reducing how often you are at their mercy
    • Distress tolerance — getting through a crisis without making the situation worse
    • Interpersonal effectiveness — asking for things, saying no, and holding a relationship at the same time

Each session includes teaching, discussion, and practice, with something to work on between weeks.

This is a DBT skills group. It is skills training in a group format, not comprehensive DBT — it does not include an individual DBT therapist, between-session phone coaching, or a consultation team. Many people find skills training useful on its own, or alongside therapy they are already doing.

Crystal meth recovery group for men who have sex with men

Co-facilitated with Centre for Life Solutions.

Crystal meth use often sits alongside sex, connection, community, and shame, and those things can be difficult to separate from one another. This group is a confidential space to talk about that honestly with other men who understand the context. It is for gay, bi, and queer men, and for men who have sex with men regardless of how they identify.

    What may bring you here

    • Concerns about your use of crystal meth
    • Use that has become tied to sex, hookups, or chemsex
    • Early recovery, and what it is like to rebuild a social and sexual life without it
    • Returning to use after a period without it
    • Isolation, or the sense that few people in your life understand this
    • Wanting a room where you do not have to explain the context first

    What the group involves

    • A consistent, confidential group that meets every two weeks
    • Discussion led by two facilitators, with structure rather than open-ended check-in
    • Attention to sex, intimacy, and community alongside substance use
    • Practical work on the situations that make use more likely
    • Connection with others who are in this

    Confidentiality

What is said in the group stays in the group. Members agree to this before joining, and it is discussed again in the first session. Facilitators are bound by professional confidentiality, with the standard legal exceptions, which are explained to you in advance.

    What this group is

This is a recovery support group. It is for men who are in recovery from crystal meth or actively working toward it, and the focus is on holding onto change rather than beginning it. There is no minimum amount of time you need to have behind you.

Where you are at is something we talk through in the screening call. If a different kind of support would serve you better right now, we will say so and help you find it.

The clinic does not provide detoxification, residential treatment, medical treatment, or emergency care.
